Session Logistics
-
Therapy sessions are located in Louisville, Colorado in a local hotel. Contact for more details.
-
Please bring the following to each therapy session:
swimwear for your child (swim diapers if needed)
goggles/preferred pool toys if desired
Your therapist will supply all other equipment for each session. It is recommended to be a dry change of clothes to put on after therapy, especially during colder months.

-
Siblings are welcome to watch sessions at the pool perimeter when supervised by an adult. However, due to liability coverage, siblings are not able to swim in the pool during sessions and must be supervised at all times.
-
This will depend on your child's specific needs/goals. Most children start with therapy sessions 1x per week. Some children will receive weekly therapy for a couple of months, while others may benefit from a more long-term intervention plan.
-
Sessions typically vary between 40-60 minutes depending on age and tolerance for the water.
-
Pediatric services can be offered for individuals aged 2-12 years old depending on condition and/or functional status.
OT & Other Services
-
Yes! Your child will work one-on-one with their therapist and will be supervised at all times. Many children are first exposed to the water during therapy sessions.
-
Although children will likely improve in their swim skills during therapy sessions, their goals will be grounded in functional improvements that can translate to their performance at home and school. OT will likely encompass practice with breathing, entering/exiting the pool, and submersion, but these will be approaches designed for improved occupational performance as opposed to swimming ability.
-
Yes! Aquatic therapy can be an excellent supplement to "land-based" OT. Both services may be eligible for insurance coverage depending on your specific health insurance plan and child's needs.
-
This is ultimately up to parents and caregivers. Some children leave school early/start late to attend therapy if it supports their occupational performance goals. Emily offers 9 weekly after school slots, but they do fill up quickly.
Funding
-
Aquatic OT is fully covered by Health First Colorado (Medicaid). If your child qualifies for benefits, their therapy will not have an additional cost.
-
We are out of network with private insurance, but can provide monthly superbills to submit to your insurer for potential reimbursement.
-
Yes! There are some additional funding sources that can cover aquatic OT. Contact your residential county to determine if there are local funds available for therapy. Here is a list of funds that have been used for therapy.
